Notes
  John Ree was a genuine WWII war hero. As a pilot with the 4th Emergency Rescue Squadron flying a PBY Catalina “Flying Boat” he was recommended for the Silver Star and awarded the Navy Distinguished Flying Cross following a daring rescue of three downed US Navy airman in Tokyo Bay on 13 Aug. 1945. Later that month John was selected to fly a very important mission, carrying the Japanese Instrument of Surrender to the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, to be signed by representatives from the Empire of Japan and the Allied forces, marking the official end to the Second World War. John was laid to rest at the Arlington National Cemetery on Nobember 9, 2020, with full military honours.
